SUNY Ulster launches new Certificate Program

Aspiring and current entrepreneurs will learn what is takes to start and run a successful business through a new two-semester Entrepreneurship Certificate program with an accelerated online option.

Starting in the spring 2014 semester, the 25- or 26-credit course will provide students with the skills needed to create, launch and manage a small business or to work within an entrepreneurial venture.

Taught by real-world professionals and in conjunction with SUNY Ulster’s Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, the certificate program is ideal for students interested in running a home-based business, traditional store-front or online venture.

The college’s Fast Finish Program provides students with the option of completing the certificate in six months with online accelerated courses.

The curriculum covers accounting, business communications, legal issues, computer applications, advertising and contemporary business issues. It concludes with a capstone course that will result in creating a business plan worthy of submission for funding.

"The new Entrepreneurship Certificate is the latest in a plethora of choices at SUNY Ulster to learn entrepreneurship and get the business, computer, legal, financial and marketing skills needed to succeed quickly,” said Mindy Kole, Instructor of Business and the Director of the Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at SUNY Ulster.

“Through our Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, we offer students interested in starting businesses real-world learning experiences and the opportunity to be involved with a student-run business,” she said.

The certificate also can be transferred toward SUNY Ulster’s associate’s degrees in Business and Entrepreneurial Studies or Business Accounting. In addition to the certificate and degree program, SUNY Ulster’s Continuing Education also offers individual courses in entrepreneurship.
