Livestock production and raising chickens beginner classes

Posted

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County’s Agriculture Program hosts two upcoming beginner classes: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 on Raising Chickens and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 on Livestock Production. The Raising Chickens class will go over everything about raising chickens for fun or profit, including housing and feeding needs, health management, and weather and predator concerns, using mobile chicken tractors and egg mobiles, and more. The Livestock Production class will cover multiple animal species, including information on domestic use and small to mid-scale commercial animal operations. The class will cover production and marketing considerations for the most common livestock types (cattle, small ruminants, pigs and poultry) and the emerging possibilities of less common though potentially profitable livestock systems, such as non-native species. Registration is required two days before each class. For cost of classes, registration and more information, visit ulster.cce.cornell.edu, email tdk36@cornell.edu or call 340-3990.
